STORIES
My Grandfather was mostly refered to as Julius, the english version for Jules which is French.
Julius was a farmer and continued farming on his homestead up to his dead in 1926. He raised beef cattle, sowed wheat,
oats and barley crops for market, his six quarter section homestead was located 4 miles north of Springside, Saskatchewan.
Julius Simair was a gentle man who would do anything for his wife Juliette, I was told that he would go with
Juliette to the movies in Yorkton, by horse and buggy which was about 24 miles at that period in time (about 1912 - 1915). Joseph(Joe)
admired his father Julius, and with the passing away of his dad when he was 17, I believe it shaped the rest of his life.
Julius was a very hard worker and was very prosperous in his time, and would give his family
whatever they needed. I Gerald (grandson) lived at the Julius Simair homestead for seven years along with my parents, Germaine (sister), Juliette,
and Jules. Juliette my grandmother would take care of myself and Geramine when Pauline was working on the farm,
Juliette would always talk of about grandfather Julius, she missed him alot, and it really affected her life, (I believe that
was why she always wore black as long as I knew her). Julius would always tease Juliette and when he died at the
Toy Yin restaurant in Yorkton, Saskatchewan on February 22, 1926, she thought he was teasing her that he was dead, but he really died, he was
44 years old, he had suffered from heart disease for several years prior to his death. After the death of Julius, Juliette continued
to live on the homestead, and raised her family with the assistance of Joe and older daughters Mary and Angel.
WORD OF CAUTION: Julius Simair had what is called a hair lip, which is similar in nature to spinal bifida that Darson Simair
his great grandson suffered from, as per doctors the two forms of medical problem are the same. It is my recommendation that anyone expecting a descendent of Julius Simair,
that they approach their doctor at pregnancy and make mention of this and I am sure that the doctor would recommend that the
pregnant mother take folic acid, as same is suppose to help avoid the problem.
