STORIES Line

Joseph(Joe) took over Julius(Jules) Simair's farm after the dead of Julius Simair in 1926, at the time Joe was 17 years old and had to assist his mother Juliette to raise his brother Jules and sisters. Shortly after that the great depression hit the Canadian prairies which made it very difficult for Juliette and him to raise the family as there was no social assistance at that time on the prairies. After Jules got married in 1947, he took over the Julius Simair home quarter, Joe and Pauline moved with their children to a farm 3 miles north of the Julius Simair homestead, and continued to farm until his retirement in 1974. After Joe retired from farming he moved to Yorkton, Saskatchewan and Pauline and him did a lot of travelling. Joe was a stern and very serious person probably due to all his early responsibilities that he had to face. Joe enjoyed fishing and hunting and in his retirement years he liked to travel as they made numerous trips to the USA, to see relatives. Prior to the dead of Julius, Joe was attending school at St. Joseph's College in Yorkton, Saskatchewan with the plans of going for a Catholic priest which Julius so wished.
NOTE: Joseph(Joe) had commented on several occasions that the Simair name was at one time called MARTEN; his comment was that the name was changed during a war in France.
